Hope Nature Centre have been informed that they may have to apply for a zoo licence to continue to put on show some of the animals currently living at the centre. The animals which could be affected are those animals which are of a wild species and include owls, parrots, emus and tortoises.

The cost of the licence and associated costs when making an application, plus ongoing inspections are estimated to be in excess of £3,000. Hope Nature Centre, a registered charity, comprises a cafe and an animal park that provides work experience for people with learning disabilities; meeting this unexpected expense out of general funds would impact our ability to meet our primary objective. We have therefore launched a crowd-funding appeal to fund all the costs of the Zoo Licence.

The tea rooms and animal park are a much loved venue for families and the wider community and it is hoped with the support of this community we will be able to raise the monies needed to get this licence in place and secure the future home for all the animals we care for.
