gigOrganisers of a gig held at Trowbridge Civic Centre in aid of The Hope Nature Centre in Southwick say it was a great success, raising almost £3,500 for the cause.

The Female Of The Species was the brainchild of Julie Morten, from Train To Skaville, with members from A Dig In The Ribs, Stoned F, Manhattan Nights and Black Widow joining her for the charity gig.

Hope Nature Choir started the evening off, followed by Tim Adams, Laura Jayne Burt, The Frukes and Robbie Williams tribute act Will Kinn, before The Female Of The Species brought the gig to a close.

ARI Fleet UK presented Lesley Vowell of The Hope Nature Centre with a cheque for £1,000 on the night, with the gig raising £3,395 in total – although the figure is still rising.

Julia Greenland, who usually plays for Manhattan Nights, said: “The show was such a great success and there wasn’t a single person sitting by the end of the evening.

“The crowd shouted for more, stamped their feet and banged on tables until we sang one more song before the evening came to a close and we are all genuinely overwhelmed by the comments we’ve received.

“The Female Of The Species website and Facebook page has been inundated with congratulations and requests for us to do it all again next year, so I don’t think we will be allowed not to do it again.

“Never in our wildest dreams did we anticipate such a wonderful response.

"It just goes to prove that, with hard work and the support of friends, family and the local community, you can achieve anything.”

Hope Nature Centre in Southwick is a non-profit organisation that helps young adults with learning difficulties to develop work and life skills, providing work placements for 30 young adults.

The event was sponsored by ARI Fleet UK, The Box Steam Brewery, Ashton Farm Foods, Webb Motor Caravans, FG Collier Kitchens & Bathrooms, Westbury Print, Superior Graphics, All Occasions and Tesco Superstore.

The Female Of The Species band thanked everyone who supported the event, including sponsors, friends, family, and the community of Trowbridge, as well as all those who bought a ticket and came to the event.
