Who do we accept?

Hope Nature Centre currently provides placements for approximately 30 individual adults with learning disabilities who engage in facilitated programmes specially designed to provide safe and stimulating day opportunities and employment support placements. These young adults [over 18 years old] are usually in placements for one year initially but these are often extended – from the original Service Users who started in 2006, four are still with the Centre. Others have left and have then rejoined the programme. The placements have originated from Fairfield Farm College, Frome College, Tumblewood (since 2010), Independent Numbers, Somerset Enham, Somerset Priory Group (Fairleigh College), On Track Education, Springfield Academy, and also includes some individuals whose parents pay for their placements and others who have no funding at all.

What will you learn?

The young adults work in either the tearoom or the animal park and learn a range of life skills including washing, ironing, vegetable preparation, making refreshments, cleaning windows, looking after the animals, and site maintenance as well as socialisation and interaction with the general public. We aim to build confidence and self esteem and a skill set that will enable some users to go on to mainstream employment elsewhere.
